Professor Wenjun ZHANG is a Fellow of IEEE. His main research fields are digital video coding and wireless transmission, multimedia semantic processing and intelligent video surveillance. He is the chief scientist of the Chinese National Engineering Research Center of Digital TV (NERC-DTV) and the national research and development project of next generation television technologies. He is also the chairman of Future Broadcast Television Initiative (FOBTV) Management Committee.

Professor Wenjun was one of the main contributors to the Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting Standard (DTMB) issued in 2006. He successfully led the team to develop the first Chinese HDTV prototype system in 1998. Prior to that, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Philips in Nuremberg, Germany, where he was actively involved in developing HD-MAC system. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degree of electronic engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1987 and 1989 respectively.
