In order to effectively promote the creative transformation and innovative development of China's excellent traditional culture, more effectively promote the socialist culture with Chinese characteristics, and build the modern civilization of the Chinese nation, the Cultural Innovation and Development Research Center of USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry at Shanghai Jiao Tong University,  the Interdisciplinary Research Center for AI and Art of Northwestern Polytechnical University and the College of Fashion and Design of Donghua University will jointly hold the first Intangible Cultural Heritage Digital Intelligence Creativity Competition . The competition aims to stimulate the public's interest and participation in intangible cultural heritage (hereinafter referred to as “ICH”) through digital technology and innovative thinking, nurture their innovative awareness and ability, enhance their sense of identity and proudness in Chinese culture, and promote the inheritance and development of ICH in modern society. We are now soliciting intangible cultural heritage creative design works, intangible cultural heritage innovative application cases, and intangible cultural heritage digital communication case analysis from the whole society.

I. The Event

2. Purpose of the event

The event aims to highlight the important role of digital technology in the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage, encourage participants to combine intangible cultural heritage with modern digital technology through creativity and innovation, explore new forms, new expressions and new values of intangible cultural heritage in the digital age, and inject new vitality into the inheritance, dissemination and development of intangible cultural heritage.

3. Objectives

Through this competition, we aim to stimulate the interest of young people in ICH digital communication and inheritance, achieve the purpose of “promoting education, learning, reform, innovation and construction through competition”, cultivate the awareness of cultural inheritance and innovation of the new generation, and seek talents with innovation ability and awareness. The competition will provide a platform for participants to demonstrate their talents, learn from each other, promote the communication and popularization of ICH, and forward the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional culture.

III. The Competition

1. Participants

Students and teachers from primary schools/ high schools/ universities, inheritors and the public

2. Track settings

There are three tracks in this competition.

(1) Cultural and creative.

The track for creative and innovative design: Encourage the design and development of ICH digital creative products or services. Example: cultural and creative museum products, creative gifts, household items, cultural theme clothing, etc.

(2) Application.

The track for digital technology application: Encourage participants to combine cultural heritage with modern technology through digital technology, virtual/augmented reality and other technological means, and create more interactive and experiential works. The application cases of ICH digital communication and digital creative innovation are welcomed as well.

(3) Case track.

The track for ICH digital communication and innovation case study: Encourage submissions of case analysis on global outstanding ICH digital communication and creative innovation.

3. How to participate

(1) Only teams can register and participate in the competition. The teams will submit projects according to specific requirements of the three tracks. Registration is free of charge. Winning projects of other competitions are not allowed to participate in this competition.

(2) One team can participate in three tracks simultaneously, but no more than two project pieces (sets) in the same track.

(3) The teams using the same project to participate in Track 1 and Track 2 shall only fill in information once. All author names must be listed, and the maximum number of authors for each project is 6, and the maximum number of instructors is 2 (if applicable).

(4) The team participating in Track 3 shall only fill in the same case analysis once. All author names must be listed, and the maximum number of authors for each project is 3, and the maximum number of instructors is 2 (if applicable).

4. Project requirements

(1) Requirements for works in Track 1 and Track 2

① Participants need to ensure the originality of their projects and that they are the legal owners of the works. Plagiarism or infringements on the legitimate third-party rights will be disqualified automatically.

② The project can be a piece or a series of work, and each piece (set) should be of similar materials in principle. Each piece (set) must have design sketch(es) or physical figures, as well as demonstration videos. The image format is JPG or PNG. The video format is MP4 (file size limit 100MB). The layout of the work should contain the name of the work, the overall and detailed sketch, and the design description.

③ The format of the submitted project should be named according to “track name + project name + affiliation of participating team”. Example: digital technology application + title of work + Nanshan Affiliated School of Beijing Normal University.


(2) Requirements for Track 3

① Participants need to ensure the originality of their projects and that they are the legal owners of the case analysis. When using or citing other people's works, the authorization from the right holder should be obtained and the source of the information should be clearly cited. Plagiarism or infringements on the legitimate third-party rights will be disqualified automatically.

② The case analysis should be well-structured, employ rigorous research methods, and contain no confidential or inappropriate content for publication.

③ The case study should be in PDF format. For a case study in Chinese, words count is limited to 10,000 words.

④ Participants in Track 3 should carefully read the “Submission Instructions” and “Copyright Statement” and sign the above documents to ensure that the case does not contain any content that violates laws, regulations or rules.

5. Submission of works

After logging in with your account on the computer (website https://ich.vcgvip.com/), click on the Intangible Cultural Heritage Digital Intelligence Creativity Competition " to participate in the activity according to the prompts.

Please ensure to submit the registration attachment, "Registration Information Collection Form," along with your work on the upload page. Only submissions that include both the work and the registration form will be considered valid entries.

IV. Review Rules

1. Competition rounds

(1) Track 1 and Track 2 will be divided into online preliminary competition and offline final.

The preliminary round is an online screening. The judging committee will conduct a preliminary screening of the submitted projects through the online review system. Participating teams need to submit materials on time, including project descriptions, displays, video demonstrations, etc. The judging committee will score the projects according to their innovation, feasibility, market prospects, etc. Top 50% of the projects will be selected to enter the finals. All teams selected for the finals will receive awards and certificates.

The top 30% in each track will enter in finals offline, including presentation and defense. Each team will be given time to present their projects, and then answer questions and comments from the judges. The judging committee will give a score based on comprehensive evaluation of the project presentation, defense performance, etc., and then decide the first and second prizes in each track.

(2) Track 3 will only have online review. The judging committee will comprehensively score the submissions through the online system, and award the first, second and third prizes in each group according to the score ranking.

2. Award setting

After the collection of submissions, the organizing committee will select outstanding works to display in the activity webpage set up by the https://ich.vcgvip.com/, organize a team of experts to evaluate them, select works, and the best projects will be awarded certificates and prizes.

(1) The award-winning projects will be developed and produced by the sponsors of this Competition. The sponsors will also provide assistance in displaying or selling products online.

(2) The award-winning works will be included in the portfolio of outstanding works of the competition by the organizing committee of the competition;

(3) In the process of the competition, the outstanding organization award will be awarded to the affiliated organization with the most extensive advertisement, participation and team performance.

V. Event Calendar

Deadline for submission: 24:00 on October 9, 2025

Announcement of the results of the preliminary round: October 24, 2025

Offline Finals: Mid-November 2025 (Subject to final notice)

VI. Content Requirements

(1) The participating projects must closely integrate the inheritance, protection and innovation of ICH, and fully reflect the achievements of digital technology in the protection and inheritance of ICH. Example: creation of new products, new services, new business formats and new models, integration of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual/ augmented reality, and big data with ICH, and promotion of the digital transformation and innovative development of ICH.

(2) Projects should make the prized traditional Chinese culture and core values of socialism stand out, stay original, healthy and legal. They shall not contain any contents that violate the Constitution of the People's Republic of China and other laws and regulations. The inventions, patented technologies and resources applied must have clear and legal intellectual property rights or property rights. Confidential content needs to be masked. Plagiarism, using others’ works without permission, submitting false materials are forbidden, and once discovered, the participant will immediately lose qualifications and awards, and will be legally responsible for the behavior.

(3) Each school is limited to 2 projects in each track. One project may only choose one track to compete. The participating affiliation is determined according to the student ID or academic background of the team leader, and they should only have one affiliation. Participating teams should fill in the registration form with their information and submit materials on time.

(4) The Competition will follow the principles of openness, fairness and impartiality to ensure that the selection process is transparent.

(5) All projects must be original and must not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others. The organizing committee of the Competition will review the compliance and authenticity of each project, including the qualifications and the scientific and technological results, intellectual property rights, financial status, management, awards and other aspects involved in the submitted project.

(6) Once their projects are entered, the participants are deemed to have authorized the Organizing Committee of the Competition to display and promote the projects over long term and free of charge. The winning projects will be selected by the Organizing Committee of the Competition, and will be announced by the committee.

(7) The organizer has the right to make technical explanations for the details of this event. Students and non students are welcome to actively participate in the Competition.
