Dr. Hanqing Zhao is an Assistant Researcher at USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry (ICCI) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Journalism and Communication from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research focuses on the application of computational social science methods in cultural and creative industries, with a particular emphasis on the diffusion and evolution of cultural products, communication governance, and national and city image studies.

Dr. Zhao adopts an interdisciplinary approach integrating communication studies, computer science, psychology, and sociology. His methodological expertise includes natural language processing, social network analysis, controlled experiments, and survey research. Through social system modeling, text analysis, and user behavior mining, he seeks to understand and interpret communication behaviors and their effects. He is dedicated to integrating computational methods with communication theories to explore innovative mechanisms of cultural and creative industries and communication behaviors in the digital era.

Dr. Zhao’s research has been published in academic journals such as Chinese Journal of Journalism and Communication and Journal of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with some papers fully reprinted by China Social Science Excellence. He was awarded the Second Prize in the 2023 Shanghai Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences and has contributed to multiple major and key projects of the National Social Science Fund of China.
