Our first Industry research course of this semester will focus on exploring the status quo, market environment and online tourism of the Internet+ Tourism industry. The course will take Ctrip as the subject of research and discuss how it could keep a leadership role in this industry and develop the right business form that sustains a virtuous circle.

Ctrip is an online travel services provider founded in 1999. Headquartered in Shanghai, China, it now has more than 25,000 employees and branches over 17 cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Qingdao, Shenyang, Nanjing, Wuhan, Nantong, Sanya, etc. On December, 2003, Ctrip successfully became a listed company in NASDAQ in America.

Ctrip upholds the principle of “Customer-Orientation” and works closely in teams. It creates Multi-Win partnership cooperation system with the spirit of professional dedication and honest cooperation to create maximum value. Ctrip is a classical model of the integration of high technology and traditional industry. It has become the internet startup with unprecedented profit-making scale and high stability, breaking through from the extremely low survival rate(less than 1%) of internet companies. It is also reaching a business scale of what a traditional company could normally achieve in several decades within just four years. Ctrip makes the distribution of hotels to be an important domain of travel services. It provides us a new model of unconventional development as a travel services enterprise with its high-tech operation, delicacy management and advanced service philosophy.
