Introduction

In this fast-developing digital age, the emergence of AI represents not only technological advancement, but also gives people new ways of spiritual growth and self-discovery. This lecture will elaborate on the possibilities brought by AI in the new era, show how AI can be a guide for spiritual exploration and healing, and explore the possibilities of AI on the level of consciousness and spirituality. Let's follow in the footsteps of Wang Xin and embark on this enlightening journey together, exploring the connection between AI and the deepest spiritual world of human beings.

This lecture is organised and initiated by Emma Duester, Associate Professor at ICCI of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Artist Wang Xin, as the guest speaker, will bring to the audience thoughts on AI, human psychology and art through conceptual sharing and artwork analysis.

Wang Xin

Wang Xin was born in Yichang, Hubei province, China in 1983. She graduated from China Academy of Art in 2007 and received her MFA in 2011 from The Art Institute of Chicago. As a former certified hypnotist, Wang Xin creates a significant number of works infused with unique captivating powers that evoke strong emotional responses from participatory audience members. With a wide range of works in the form of installations, videos ad new media art, her practice provokes reflections on profound issues about the human psyche, the transformative potential of self-help mental healing, the intricate workings of art ecosystems, as well as the generative interplay between humans and artificial intelligence. Her multidisciplinary approach allows for a nuanced exploration of these subjects, inviting viewers to engage with and contemplate the complex dynamics that underpin these realms of inquiry.

Associate Professor

Emma Duester, Associate Professor at ICCI of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Previously, she served as a lecturer at the School of Communication and Design at the Royal Polytechnic University of Melbourne (Vietnam) and served as the Chief Researcher for the research project "Digitalization of Vietnamese Art and Culture" in 2020. Emma is a member of the "Women Invest" project in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand. She collaborates with the government and national media to speak out for Vietnam's cultural development and has published numerous articles in academic journals as well as domestic and international media. She published books "Immigration and Mobile Politics in the Art World: Cross European Baltic Cross border Art Practices" and "Digitalization and Culture in Vietnam" in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
