Research Field: Inter-Asian Artistic Interactions, Global South Art History, VR/AR Digital Curation

Yu YAN received her PhD from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and her BA from Peking University. Prior to joining SJTU, she held postdoctoral positions at the Center for Global Asia, NYU Shanghai, and the Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on modern Chinese art reform, leftist art, and artistic interactions in the Global South during the twentieth century. Currently, she is working on a monograph on twentieth-century Sino-South Asian artistic exchange. Driven by academic curiosity, she has explored diverse art forms, including calligraphy, painting, woodcut prints, and dance. Her research articles have appeared in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. She was also the curator for several research-based exhibitions, including the VR project “Flowers on One Stalk: China-India Artistic Interactions in the Twentieth Century” at NYU Shanghai and the on-site exhibition “Amazing Clay: The Ceramic Collection of the Art Museum” at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. At ICCI, she currently teaches art history courses and mentors students in curatorial practice.
