Much of his recent music has been focused on exploring how purely computer-generated sound materials can be used along with musical instruments and purely acoustic sounds. He composes acoustic and electroacoustic music that has been performed at different venues and events worldwide such as ICMC, SEAMUS, SMC and NYCEMF. As a computer music researcher, he contributes software for laptop ensemble performances and applications for music and sound interactions on different platforms. His music is available on ABLAZE label.

Xu holds a DMA from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music and earlier degrees from CCM and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He is currently an assistant professor at the Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
