Zhixin XU
Research Field: Composition of electroacoustic music/Music production/Interactive music/Granular synthesis technique/Instrument and application design based on music programming language/Sound and music interaction on game platform based on music programming language
Dr. Zhixin Xu is a composer, sound artist and computer music researcher based in Shanghai, China. He seeks to complement and extend the musical inflections of performers with electronic sound, sometimes generated in real time by the software he develops. Much of his recent music has been focused on exploring how purely computer-generated sound materials can be used along with musical instruments and purely acoustic sounds. He composes acoustic and electroacoustic music that has been performed at different venues and events worldwide such as ICMC, SEAMUS, SMC and NYCEMF. As a computer music researcher, he contributes software for laptop ensemble performances and applications for music and sound interactions on different platforms. His music is available on ABLAZE label.
Xu holds a DMA from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music and earlier degrees from CCM and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He is currently an assistant professor at the Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
