The First Supervisor Group’s Meeting Held for Students of 2016 Class

On the afternoon of May 22, 2017, USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry (ICCI) organized the first official meeting of the Supervisor Group for students of 2016 Class in Room.113, Chen Ruiqiu Building, SJTU Minhang Campus.

Prof. Weimin ZHANG, ICCI Executive Dean, made the opening speech at the meeting, in which he emphasized the vision, mission and goal of the institute, and reiterated three unique features of ICCI- internationalization, cross-disciplinary curriculum, and industry-orientation. Afterwards, Prof. ZHANG explained the structure of the Supervisor Group and its responsibilities. He encouraged students to proactively communicate with supervisors on both academic and personal development and take full advantages of the recourses that the Supervisor Group offers, especially the internship opportunities that industrial supervisors can provide.

Ms. Jialiang CHEN from ICCI Academic Affairs Office then gave students of 2016 Class a detailed introduction of several stages of the thesis writing and emphasized key deadlines for each task, which was then followed by a Q&A session. Supervisors gave valuable instructions on the overall planning of thesis writing.

Later, students and their supervisors were divided into small groups respectively and continued with discussions in specific topics such as effective data collection, ways to choose an appropriate thesis topic, research methodology, etc. With the guidance of supervisors, students felt more confident in writing successful thesis and fully demonstrating their academic achievements.
