The Teaching Team led by Titus Levi, Vice Professor from ICCI, has been selected as part of the first session of “Joint Course” in SJTU Global Classroom Project

Recently, the final review and approval meeting for the first session of ‘Joint Course’, a part of SJTU Global Classroom Project, was successfully held in Minhang campus. Leaders from departments and institutes such as Dan HUANG, Deputy Director of the Office of Academic Affairs , Qianbin CHEN, Vice Dean of UM-SJTU Joint Institute, Qing TAO, Vice Dean of the Foreign Language School, and teacher representatives such as Qiang GUO from Materials Science and Engineering College, Chongsheng PENG from College of Pharmacy were present at the meeting as the judging panel. Ke CHEN, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, presided at the meeting.

SJTU Global Classroom Project was launched in May this year and received a strong response to the call around the whole campus. After the first-round review by the board, there were three teams nominated for the final review and approval.

At the meeting, Deputy Director Ke Chen briefly introduced the arrangement of “Joint Course” as part of the SJTU Global Classroom Project in our school. In order to cope with the difficulties of cross-border study exchange that students face during the pandemic, the school took the initiative to find out a new way to push forward the international exchange and cooperation, conducting the online teaching cooperation with partner universities. Thanks to the university alliance, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office actively promoted the pilot project of “Courses Co-construction ” in 2021 spring semester via U21 Global Classroom & SDGs, which was formed by an international teaching faculty from SJTU(China), University of California, Davis(US) and Tecnologico de Monterrey(Mexico). It has received supportive funding from U21 University Alliance. So far, the project has been completed with a great success.

In the review meeting, the evaluation standards focused on teaching contents, teaching design, teaching performance and cooperation with overseas universities. Two teams got the final approvals after the comprehensive review by the board: Team led by Titus Levi from ICCI, and Team led by Qian Wang from School of Media and Communications.



“SJTU Global Classroom Project” aims to build an all-English high-quality international platform, with both Chinese characteristics and philosophy of Jiaotong University. The approved “Joint Course” will be available in the platform, and this will not only guarantee the close proximity communication between teachers and students, but also provide a chance for students from different background to take courses given by world-class universities without going abroad.

SJTU, holding the strategic goal of cultivating international talents around the national “Double Tops” construction, puts great emphasis on conducting the exchange and cooperation with overseas partner universities, and developing students’ global vision and competence. The International Cooperation and Exchange Office will undoubtedly facilitate the continued cooperation and set up special funds to promote the building of SJTU Global Classroom Project – Joint Course.
