Weimin ZHANG, Dean of ICCI, Led a Delegation to Visit the UK and France

From June 24 to 28, 2024, Weimin ZHANG, Secretary of the Party Committee and Dean of ICCI, led a delegation to visit several institutions in the UK and France including Imperial College London, Goldsmiths University of London, University of Kent, and KEDGE Business School, so as to deepen mutual exchanges with overseas universities and promote comprehensive cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research, and cultural fields.

On June 24, the delegation visited Imperial College London's Dyson School of Design Engineering, meeting with founding dean Professor Peter Childs and current dean Professor Robert Shorten. They discussed their schools' development, distinctive disciplines, and potential collaborations. Weimin ZHANG highlighted the importance of fostering innovative thinking across different cultural backgrounds and integrating cultural and creative industries with technological innovation globally.

On June 25, the delegation visited the University of Kent and held discussions with leaders from the School of Arts and Humanities, the Institute for Cultural and Creative Industries, and the International Office. Professor Paul Allain and Weimin ZHANG signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on student and faculty exchanges, research, and cultural projects. The delegation toured the School of Architecture and Design and other facilities. They also visited the Docking Station creative base and the Chatham Historic Dockyard maritime museum to study local cultural heritage revitalization.

On June 26, the delegation visited Goldsmiths University of London's Department of Computing, Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE), and International Recruitment Office. They discussed expanding cooperations in student exchanges and research projects. Professors William Latham and Slyvia Pan guided the delegation through the Department of Computing's laboratories. Weimin ZHANG interacted with students in the international dual master's degree program and experienced their virtual reality projects.

In 2019, XueMin XU, Former member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with Mark d’Inverno, Vice President for International Affairs, Goldsmith College, University of London, signed an inter-university cooperation memorandum. The joint projects have successfully trained two cohorts of outstanding students. Yutong CHEN from the ICCI Class 2021 and Yijun MA from the Class 2022 won "Best Virtual Reality Project" at Goldsmiths. Mai YE from the Class 2022 won an award at the UK Immersive Tech Award.

On June 28, the delegation visited KEDGE Business School in France. President Alexandre, Vice President for China Jean-François, Academic Director of the GMBA program Herve, and Shanghai Operations Director Fei YAN received the delegation. They discussed the Sino-foreign cooperative MBA and executive training programs, acknowledged past achievements, and outlined future development plans. They also discussed joint training of full-time master's students, international summer school collaboration, visiting professorships, and joint research.
